Mallorca has long been visited because of its amazing weather, with very hot dry Summers and mild Winters. The Island has immense natural beauty from the rocky mountain ranges of Tramantana to the flat plains in the centre of the Island. The coastline is full of stunning beaches with pristine sands and clear blue/green waters.

 


It is often voted the favourite holiday destination of those traveling from Britain, Germany and many Scandinavian countries. Easy to get to with many flights into Palma de Mallorca airport and a huge choice of places to stay, things to do and much to enjoy, its easy to understand why.

Explore its rich History.

 

If sight-seeing is something you like to do when away then Mallorca has lots on offer. Starting with the capital Palma, you can visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria. This 13th Century Cathedral is a Gothic Roman Catholic Cathedral that was built on the site of a former Arab mosque. Its construction was started in 1229 by King James 1 of Aragon but was not completed until 1601. It sits within the old city and over looks the Parc de la Mar and with views over the Mediterranean sea.

 

 

Moving 3km West from Palma you will discover Bellver Castle. This Gothic style castle was built in the 14th Century for King James II of Mallorca and it has note of being one of the view circular castles in Europe. Although at one time it was used as a military prison it is now one of the main tourist attractions in Mallorca and has since become one of the major symbol’s of the city.

 

 

The Royal Palace of La Almudaina  is located in Palma . It is the fortified palace in Palma having been once an Arabian Fort, it was claimed by King James II in the early 14th Century. It is now used by the Spanish Royal Family as their official residence for state occasions. It lies opposite Palma Cathedral and has amazing views over the Bay of Palma
Heading to Escorca in North West Mallorca you will come across The Santuari de Lluc. The monastery was founded in the 13th Century after a statue of the Virgin Mary was discovered on the site by a moorish shepherd. It is now regarded as the most important pilgrimage site in Mallorca and due to its proximity to some of the amazing mountain ranges near by, it is also used as a major starting point for people taking hiking holidays in the area.

 

 

Relax on the Beach.

 

No holiday to Mallorca would be complete without sampling some of the amazing beaches that the Island has to offer. In the North East of the Island lies Cala Agulla Beach. The setting of this beach is really stunning, with fine golden sand and clear blue/green water and with a back drop of pine forests and the mountains of Llevant National Park. It is situated close to Cala Ratjada and is a great beach to go to in the very hot weather as you can take a cooling walk through the forest at the hottest point of the day.

 


On the South East of the Island lies Cala Barc Beach which is a popular destination for anyone who is looking to go diving or snorkelling. The long thin bay has sheltered, calm waters which makes it an ideal beach for these sports and it also affords a place to begin good walking tours along the coastline south towards Cala Figuera.

 

 

 

Alcudia Beach. This stunning white sand beach stretches from the Port of Alcudia . The beach is a popular destination for holiday makers and especially those with children as the beach has safe shallow waters. Behind the beach lies a resort that has been purpose built which means that in the high summer months it will get busy but it is still worth a trip to.

Mallorca offers a whole range of activities to do whilst staying there,  from gentle walks and hiking to adrenalin filled water sports so what ever your mood or inclination there will be something for you.

 

 

The Capital Palma can be discovered on bikes or viewed from the waters on sunset boat trips. The Island offers plenty of sailing trips on either motor boats or sailing yachts. You can trek along the beach on horse back or snorkel and dive in the clear blue waters and examine life below the waves.

 

 

 

For those wanting to experience more of an adrenalin rush then why not try Fly Boarding or Jet skiing.
If you are after a more sedate holiday there are numerous golf courses to enjoy a round, or you can sample a wine tour or spa day. If you would like to see Mallorca from a different vantage then book yourself on a Hot Air Ballon trip and discover the beauty of Mallorca from the air.
